Spencer Machine & Tool was founded by President (CEO) Glenn Spencer. Previously he worked at a major machine & tool shop starting in 1964. During his time working, he helped grow a small business that started with 14 people to a major company employing 84 skilled machinists. “We started out working in the automotive sector, but I realized that the industrial market was a bigger opportunity for us.” says Spencer. In 1985, Spencer started his own machine shop, Spencer Machine & Tool working out of his garage at his residence. His mission was not only to produce quality machine work to customers, but also give quality service to an industry that would soon appreciate it. As his customer numbers grew, he built a manufacturing facility in Jeffersonville, Indiana in 1993. Spencer Machine & Tool started with 3 employees, but soon became one of the biggest machine shops in the area.
Mr. Glenn Spencer, President
The company has invested over $1 million dollars in expanding. As of today, the company has quadrupled in size since its beginning. The employees are highly skilled in their field of machinery. “We are a family here,” Spencer often says. “We care about our employees, and in turn they care about their work and their customers.” Glenn Spainhour, general manager, states “It’s just a great place to work. I have never worked at a machine shop where the employee’s input and ideas were valued.” Service is what Spencer Machine & Tool values it’s business ideals when it comes to work. That’s why they now offer a 24/7 emergency service to its customers. “You have to be there for them (customers) when they call. Their issues are very important to us, and we want to work with them to solve the problem.” Mike Mateikat, shop foreman, says.

Recently, Spencer Machine & Tool has obtained equipment that can provide work to industries such as quarries, mills, engineering and other customers who have big needs for repair. They now have a 5” horizontal boring mill that has a 72” x 120” travel table which holds up to 12.5 tons.
